Ciment fondu, thread, notebook with handmade coptic binding

Drawing on the poetic interplay between symbols – the foot, the map, the thread, the book –, Un piège à un pied du sol is a sculpture that explores the relationship between the body and geographic space. The mass of the foot, cast in cement and placed on the map, creates a rupture of scale with the map that serves as a base—an impossibility to find one’s place within the space, to root oneself. The thread, emerging from the top of the foot and used in the handmade binding of the notebook, evokes a sense of bodily interiority.
