Inspired by Sigmund Freud’s theory of the Unconscious mind, The Heart-Shaped Box explores the state of pain related to the parting of a significant person. The heart floats within this space, attached to this mental and physical predicament. The memories attached to the loved one create inner resistance and physical and emotional effects.

This artwork expresses the inner monologue activated by pain. With the sculpture, the poem, presented in an audio format, sought to immerse its audience and facilitate a sensorial connection to emotional memory. The Heart-Shaped Box addresses ideologies of health (physical and mental), acceptance, resilience, balance, inner strength, and identity.
