The artwork Mourning Flowers #14 is part of a series of works related to the evolution of grief. The artist encounters death through his second profession as a nurse. In 2022, he began this project to honor his deceased patients. The series consists of 18 works.

For this, Yannick De Serre used real flowers for his relief prints. During this process, the pigmentation from the flowers was transferred onto the artwork’s surface (which is gauze). Visually, we see a print incorporating both oil ink and the natural coloration of the flowers. Over time, this coloration may evolve, fade, or change color—much like grief, which evolves but always remains present.

The artist also decided to provide a photograph with the artwork. This photograph was taken on day 1 of the creation of the piece. It serves as an archive and reference to what the work looked like in the very beginning.
