Murava, a six-armed goddess, holds a serpent, skull, sickle, spindle, fire, and axe.

acrylic on canvas

Murava (Winter) depicts a six-armed goddess surrounded by the symbolic attributes of winter, death, transformation, and renewal. Each of her hands holds a different object: a serpent, a skull, a sickle, a spindle, fire, and an axe. Together, these elements create a complex portrait of a female figure associated with both destruction and creation. The serpent evokes cycles of transformation, regeneration, and the shedding of what has become obsolete. The skull recalls mortality and the inevitable passage of life into death. The sickle suggests harvest, cutting, and the end of a cycle, while the spindle introduces the opposite movement: the act of weaving, creating, and connecting. Fire becomes both destructive and regenerative, capable of consuming but also providing warmth and transformation. The axe suggests cutting, clearing, and the force necessary to reshape a landscape. The goddess's six arms allow these contradictory forces to coexist within a single body. Rather than representing winter solely as a season of dormancy or death, the work presents it as a necessary period of transformation. Murava embodies the tension between endings and beginnings, destruction and creation, stillness and renewal.
