Created for the exhibition What the City Whispers, Coudre les frontières treats the map as a metaphorical object. Following the artist’s book À vol d’oiseau featured in the show, the work explores the physicality of the map by connecting it to the body—where veins and arteries mirror roads and waterways. Using the Japanese momigami technique, the map takes on a skin-like texture, marked by numerous stitched details, which reveals the map as a surface with depth, subject to injury, graft, and healing. Through the interplay between the intimate scale of the body and the bird’s-eye perspective of the map, the artist explores the embodied experience of place, as well as the generative potential of understanding territory as a porous and open condition.
