Oil on Wood

Created in the summer of 2024, this small oil painting on wood with rounded corners took shape during the final summer shared between the artist and her grandfather. The work depicts a body whose feet are replaced by hands, moving forward along colored lines scattered with wild strawberries. This anatomical transformation suggests a desire to move differently—privileging touch, care, and attentiveness.
The strawberries, both fragile and abundant, evoke at once the profusion of life and its vulnerability. Replacing walking with gathering becomes a metaphor for care: moving without crushing, taking one’s time, paying attention to what might otherwise be lost. The colored lines structure the space as a sensitive path, situated between memory, presence, and accompaniment.
Through its intimate scale and wooden support, the work reinforces a slow, domestic temporality rooted in everyday life. Jean transforms a precise memory into a poetic image in which the body reconfigures itself in response to an affective necessity: that of caring, to the very end.
