Chez soi is part of Rêver Voler, a pictorial series inspired by the childhood dream of flying. Within the narrative of this serie, a child trains a bird to learn how to fly. Built upon the dual nature of play—as both a system of rules and constraints and as a realm of imagination and freedom—this series examines how the yearning for absolute freedom becomes intertwined with impulses of control.
Emerging from the artist's daily practice of drawing, the painted images take shape in the indistinct space between wakefulness and sleep. With Chez soi, the artist investigates the motifs of the cage and the window, revealing how intimacy can manifest as a form of enclosure within an individual’s fantasy.
Rêver Voler (2023-2024) marks Bois’s first body of work to delve into the core themes of her practice: childhood play, the relationship with animals, and the boundary between naivety and control.
