Biography and artistic approach
Yannick De Serre explores the extended practices of engraving and drawing. He orchestrates the contrast of emotions: love-hate, life-death, absence-presence; through the encounter and installation of two-dimensional and three-dimensional works.
These works, of an intimate and personal nature, relate to the universality of these deeper feelings. Despite the intimate aspect of the subject, the viewer can still project him(her)self into the work and recognize themself in it..
His work is largely influenced by his job as a nurse in an intensive care unit. The great sensitivity that emanates there is reconciled with a softness of an image that envelops and comforts. The multidisciplinary practice of the artist intoxicates us with beauty before using, with great conviction, the harsh reality. These works, seemingly fragile, therefore prevaricate between gentleness and violence. It is in contemplation that De Serre's work (words and material) takes on its full meaning. The artist leads the viewer to live an empathic experience.
The artist Yannick De Serre holds a bachelor's degree in visual arts from Laval University. He exhibits across Quebec in addition to ensuring a presence in major international fairs (Papier-2015 to 2018, Art Basel-2013, TIAF-2011, Sydney and New-York-2010). In 2012, the Musée d'art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul acquired one of his works. In addition, his works are in many private and institutional collections.
The artist's recent production questions the notion of “caring” which is influenced by his nursing practice which started in 2004. Imbued with sensitivity, the intimacy of his art resonates with its viewers.
In 2022-23, you will be able to contemplate his work at the OBORO art center (Montreal), at the Atoll Art center (Victoriaville) and at the Atelier Presse Papier (Trois-Rivières).
