By constructing two giant hairpins, my aim is to radically disrupt the scale and materials associated with everyday objects, exploring the concept of utility and inutility. The hairpin, with its rich history dating back to ancient civilizations, holds a lot of cultural and symbolic meaning. Importantly, this object has been adopted in the LGBTQIA+ community where it is used as a symbol of self-expression and defiance of societal norms. This work is an exploration of queer phenomenology, a field that examines the ways in which our understanding of the world is shaped by our experiences and identities. By challenging our perceptions of what is considered art and what is not, I am inviting the viewer to consider the ways in which their own understanding of the world is shaped by societal norms and expectations. Referencing the Clothespin sculpture by Claes Oldenburg and the Kiss by Constantin Brancusi, my work is also a commentary on the relationship between everyday objects and fine art.

En construisant deux épingles à cheveux géantes, mon objectif est de perturber radicalement l'échelle et les matériaux associés aux objets du quotidien, explorant ainsi le concept d'utilité et d'inutilité. L'épingle à cheveux, avec sa riche histoire remontant aux civilisations anciennes, porte beaucoup de sens culturel et symbolique. Importamment, cet objet a été adopté dans la communauté LGBTQIA+, où il est utilisé comme un symbole d'expression de soi et de défi aux normes sociétales. Ce travail est une exploration de la phénoménologie queer, un domaine qui examine la manière dont notre compréhension du monde est façonnée par nos expériences et nos identités. En remettant en question nos perceptions de ce qui est considéré comme de l'art et de ce qui ne l'est pas, j'invite le spectateur à réfléchir aux façons dont sa propre compréhension du monde est influencée par les normes et les attentes sociétales. Faisant référence à la sculpture Clothespin de Claes Oldenburg et au Baiser de Constantin Brancusi, mon travail est également un commentaire sur la relation entre les objets du quotidien et les beaux-arts.
