Biography

Concordia University sculpture major, Riesbri, blends woodworking, casting, metalworking, ceramics, painting, and design, drawing from their diverse background spanning Paraguay, Brazil, and Montreal. While sculpture remains prominent, their paintings intricately weave a child-like-cartoonish aesthetic, reminiscent of "Adventure Time" and the Kiki and Bouba effect. Utilizing a vibrant color palette as a technological tool, Riesbri's work delves into personal experiences and a mixed indigenous background, creating profoundly biographical pieces reflecting their journey, identity, and the delicate dance between utility and rebellion



Artistic Approach

For Riesbri, a special dynamic exists between humans and sculpture, where the object can be perceived as another body by the viewer who can simultaneously interact with both the object and the space it occupies. A fundamental fascination with the human condition guides her practice, which also involves themes related to technology, process, and experimentation. Riesbri seeks to play with notions of utility and futility to create transgressive objects. Events related to her personal life and indigenous origins are freely incorporated into her work, giving Riesbri's pieces an autobiographical nature.

Biographie

Ayant un bac en sculpture à l'Université Concordia, Riesbri est un.e artiste dont le parcours diversifié, originair.e du Paraguay, élevé au Brésil et résidant maintenant à Montréal, influence profondément sa pratique artistique. Mêlant travail du bois, moulage, travail des métaux, céramique, peinture et design, Riesbri crée des dialogues uniques entre éléments abstraits et formels. Tout en mettant la sculpture au premier plan, ses peintures tissent habilement une esthétique enfantine-cartoon rappelant "Adventure Time" et l'effet Kiki et Bouba. Sa palette de couleurs devient un outil technologique, non seulement visuellement attrayant, mais aussi instrumental pour transmettre émotion et récit. Ancrée dans des expériences personnelles et une origine autochtone mixte, son œuvre est profondément biographique, chaque pièce reflétant un récit de son parcours, identité et la délicate danse entre utilité et rébellion.

Démarche 

Pour Riesbri, une dynamique spéciale existe entre l'humain et la sculpture, là où l'objet peut être perçu comme un autre corps par le spectateur qui peut simultanément interagir avec ce dernier et l'espace qu'il occupe. Une fascination fondamentale pour la condition humaine guide sa pratique qui implique également les thèmes relatifs à la technologie, au processus et à l'expérimentation. Riesbri cherche ainsi à jouer avec les notions d'utilité et de futilité pour créer des objets transgressifs. Des événements ayant un attrait à sa vie personnelle ainsi qu'à ses origines autochtones sont librement incorporés à son travail, ainsi portant aux œuvres de Riesbri une nature autobiographique.
